Breathe in, breathe out! Skitour in Saalbach

Skiers with prying eyes ... belong to the everyday life of a ski tourer like the rewarding view on the mountain. Despite the modern lifts, a ski tour in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is just fun and this physical exertion is worth every sweat. It is getting easier with the height, some would say "more energetic".

Today I enjoy my ski tour on the natural ski route Westgipfel, affectionately called "Stieger Abfahrt" from locals. You can start with a short drive up the U-Bahn in the center of Hinterglemm. Once you arrive at the top station, you can take a walk along the snow-covered forest road towards the Bergstadl. An idyllic winter landscape with snowy trees and bird chirping is the scene here - even in March. And exactly this route is my goal for today - including bird twittering.
After the snowy forest road I pass the Bergstadl and head forward to the ski route Westgipfel. Furs attached to my skis prevent from slipping backwards.
The ski route Westgipfel is a natural slope and an absolute ski touring highlight due to the huge amount of snow and the unspoiled terrain.
The views make you desire for more and with rhythmic steps you enjoy your skitour in Saalbach.
After about an hour I leave the last trees behind and off the heavily frequented ski slopes I experience nature up here in its purest form.
Inhale, briefly stop the fresh air and exhale with pleasure. I notice how it fills my lungs.
After a steeper section I move towards the main piste again. The view glides up to the still snow-covered alpine pastures and on the horizon I already recognize the summit crosses of the surrounding mountains. However, this area can only be discovered with mountain guides, as some unpleasant surprises can lurk in form of small avalanches.
After I reached the slope, I move forward to the top station of the Westgipfelbahn. I can already see the "Westgipfelhütte" from a distance, the anticipation for a Kaiserschmarrn lets time fly by.

Moments later ...

Satisfied I enjoy the hot Kaiserschmarrn with an epic view to the Hohen Tauern - Saalbach is truly a true gem for any alpine adventure.
